AIMS to Announce Oakland Student Attendance Challenge Winner at Pep Rally

The winner will receive $500 from the Oakland Natives Give Back Fund

Oakland, Calif. – November 17, 2021, AIMS College Prep Charter District will announce the winner of the Oakland Natives Give Back (ONGB) Every Day Counts Attendance Challenge at a pep rally on Thursday, November 18 at 1:00 p.m PST. The award recipient, 7th grade AIMS student Yoel Assfha, will receive a $500 scholarship in recognition of her high attendance rate.

Over 300 AIMS Middle School students are expected to gather at Lake Merritt’s Camron-Stanford House for the rally, which is part of the AIMS spirit week. Students will enjoy outdoor activities hosted by coaches and teachers. During the event, students of the month will be recognized, and athletic teams will be highlighted.

“The Every Day Counts Attendance Challenge is more than a contest,” says Superintendent Woods. “It’s an opportunity to celebrate our students and their commitment to attendance and academic excellence. We congratulate this month’s deserving winner, and hope today’s rally and award ceremony will encourage and empower our students even more.”

AIMS celebrates a Middle School and Elementary School attendance rate of approximately 97%.

The Oakland Natives Give Back Fund, Inc. (ONGB) facilitates this contest to acknowledge students who prioritize attending school regularly and on time. The contest is open to all students throughout OUSD, including public charter schools in Oakland and Northern California.

AIMS K-12 College Prep Charter District was founded in Oakland in 1996 and is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The district serves approximately 1300 students with 99% minority students, and 75% of our students qualifying for free or reduced lunch AIMS strives to cultivate a community of diverse learners who achieve academic excellence. Their commitment to high expectations in attendance, academic achievement, and character development results in their students being prepared for lifelong success.
